TH130 Hermeneutics

An introductory course on the principles for interpreting Scripture. It summarizes the need for hermeneutical principles and explores the qualifications, tools, and goals of a biblical interpreter. The course includes a unit on the general and specific principles for interpreting the Bible, a unit on genres, and a unit on applying the principles. Students develop skills by practicing the principles in the provided exercises.

TH180 Living By Faith

Within the overall context of this course, three major areas relative to the believer’s life of faith will be highlighted: the Biblical, the theological, and the practical. TH190 Evangelism: Theology & Practice      

A study of the theology of evangelism as revealed in the scriptures and of the practice of evangelism, especially in the program of the local church. The course will identify and challenge assumptions about traditional methods of evangelism and explore alternative ways of thinking and action in ministry. Leaders will be equipped as evangelists with the ability to contextualize the Gospel through friendship evangelism and to reconcile seekers to God.

HS 195 A/G History, Missions and Governance

This course is a study to give the students an understanding of the Assemblies of God history, missions, and governance. Historically the course is covered by studying the stories of people influential in the development of the Assemblies of God. Theological attention is given to the development of the Tenants of Faith and theology of missions with an emphasis on the people that were involved in the process. Organizationally, the General Council Constitution and Bylaws will be reviewed with a focus on the structure of the Assemblies of God as well as local church organization.

TH210 Prison Epistles

The goal for the student is a better understanding of culture, period times, religious currents in which each book was written as well as a clearer understanding of the text itself using the New International Biblical Commentary of Ephesians, Colossians, and Philemon, otherwise known as the prison epistles. This will be accomplished by highlighting important texts, adding complementary notes and listing a bibliography where the student can do further research.

TH340 Pastoral Ministry

This course will aid students to develop competency in pastoral ministry through a study of being called to a church, beginning a pastoral ministry, building relationships, leading a church, and leaving a church field. This course will serve as a general introduction to the theology of the first five books of the Bible. TH370—Biblical Preaching 2

This course will concentrate on the role of the preacher and his or her ability to communicate the clear message of the “Good News” of Jesus Christ to a culture that is continually changing. The course combines elements from Biblical Preaching 1 with principles of sermon delivery. Each student delivers expository sermons before the professor and class members. The student who successfully completes this course will be able to: (a) deliver an effective expository sermon to a typical congregation, (b) critique a sermon in a manner that improves his own preaching and (c) evaluate his readiness and willingness to accept the responsibility of a regular preaching ministry. TH140 is a prerequisite for this course.
